your doula
support for pregnancy and birth

You've had a look at what doulas can do, below are the services I can offer you as your doula...

I am able to offer my services to you as a birth or postnatal doula, if you live in East Sussex or West Sussex, as far from Worthing as Chichester, Horsham, Haywards Heath and Brighton.

If you can not afford the services of a doula, and are on benefits I may be able to be your birth doula and claim my expenses via the Doula UK hardship fund. Please contact me for details.

Initial Consultation

Before you decide to hire me as your doula, we would have a meeting together. We would obviously need to get on, as I would be providing support at such an important and private time for you and your family, and I would need to be someone you would want to be around. We would discuss exactly what you wanted, a birth doula, a postnatal doula or both, and talk about your needs and requirements. There is no charge for this initial consultation, and you are under no obligation to hire me.

Birth Doula (£500)

2 antenatal visits, looking in detail at the sort of labour and birth you want, discussing your options, maybe compiling a birth plan with you, or going through it if you have already made one, planning your birth, maybe having a trial run to the hospital/visit to the labour ward if applicable. Essentially these meetings are about us getting to know each other, building up a rapport and a trust between us and enabling you to talk through and address any concerns you may have about the pregnancy, labour or birth.

Unlimited telephone calls and emails to answer any questions you may have, or just to chat things through.

Access to my collection of useful books and cds.

I will be on call, day or night, for 29 days, ready for you to go into labour, 2 weeks before your due date and 2 weeks after. You can call me at anytime during this period, and I will come to and support you in labour, whether at home or at hospital.

Attendance at your birth - for however long it takes!

1 postnatal visit of 1-2 hours to talk through the birth, discuss feeding, discuss how you feel you are managing and whether you need any postnatal support.

Postnatal Doula (currently unavailable)

Everyone's needs are so individual after the birth of a new baby, but I will do anything I can to try and make things easier for you. I will be a friend who you don't have to entertain, and don't need to tidy up for.

I will provide you with emotional support, and can give breastfeeding support if this is needed.

I will carry out practical tasks such as shopping, making drinks/snacks for you, looking after your baby while you get some rest, making drinks for visitors, hoovering, tidying, laundry, changing nappies, looking after older children whilst you are feeding your baby, cooking light meals, preparing bottle feeds, and answering the phone/door for you. By doing this, you will get more time to bond with your baby and be able to catch up on some much needed sleep.

I will be able to work for as long as you want me to, to help ease you in gently to the new way of life that includes your new baby.

Birth Preparation Evenings (£75)

You may feel that although you would not like a doula at your birth, you would like the opportunity to go through your personal concerns about birth. Maybe you'd like to debrief a previous birth experience, think about ways in which your own birth partner can help support you in labour, or create an effective birth plan.

I can tailor this session to meet your individual needs, and it can be held in the comfort of your own home - particularly useful if you have other children - on a date and at a time to suit you.

By the end of the meeting you should feel more prepared for your labour and birth, and, when the time comes for you to have your baby, feel more informed and confident about the choices you will make.
