My name is Jayn Stapleton, and I am a married mother of 4 children, a girl (born 2000) and 3 boys (born 2001, 2004 and 2006). We have been living in Worthing for 7 years, and before that my husband and I lived in Brighton and Haywards Heath.
Before becoming a doula I worked in personnel, and always particularly enjoyed the welfare and advice aspects of the job. I really liked interacting with people, and always enjoyed dealing with the maternity leave and entitlement issues. During a year of my own maternity leave, I decided that I no longer wanted to work in an office environment, and instead wanted to work with mums and babies. When I heard about the job of a doula, I knew this was the job for me, and have been excitedly training, reading, researching and gaining as much experience as possible ever since.
Obviously having 4 children, I have gained a first hand knowledge of pregnancy and childbirth. I am lucky enough to have very recent pregnancy and birth experiences, that I remember very well. I have always had enjoyable pregnancies, and had 4 positive, but very different labours and births, including a water birth for my 3rd child, and a home birth for my 4th. I have both breastfed and bottle fed, used disposable and washable nappies, and tried routines and 'going with the flow' and feel I am able to help out and wholeheartedly support you whatever way you choose to do things!
I am a 'recognised birth doula', with Doula UK, the main doula organisation in the UK and also work as a volunteer for them.
As a doula, I have attended home births, and also hospital births at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, and at Worthing Hospital. I am equally happy to attend your birth at a birthing centre.
I have supported spontaneous and induced labours, waterbirths, a vbac and an elective caesarean. I have been a doula for women with and without another partner being present.
I have been CRB checked.
I am currently working with an independent midwife to set up and run a local homebirth support group.
I have trained with St Johns Ambulance in infant resucitation.
I am qualified as a Mother Supporter with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (ABM).
Although I am not a qualified homeopath, I have recently attended a training course on the homeopathic remedies to use in late pregnancy, labour and childbirth.
I am an agent for Splashdown Water Birth Services. If you are looking to hire a pool for a home water birth, and would like to see one of the pools before you hire, please contact me, and I can arrange a time for you to come and see one. I also can deliver Splashdown birthing pools locally.
As an alternative to hire pools, I also sell 'La Bassine' the inflatable Made in Water birthing pool. If you would like to purchase one of these, and save yourself postage costs, please contact me, and you can arrange to pick one up.
I have attended a Millennia Doula Workshop, and also have completed an intensive Paramana Doula Course with Michel Odent, the pioneering french obstetrician and author. I am very aware of the importance of continuing to professionally develop. I therefore meet with local doulas, and attend national Doula UK Study Days and meetings when I can.
Additionally, I learn from each birth I attend. With every new experience, I know I gain knowledge and more information that I can use and pass on.
I enjoy meeting and working with new people, and am a very happy, friendly, capable, resourceful woman. I look forward to meeting you and helping you out at what will be one of the most exciting, important times of your life.
